Word — the revision history survives
Translate the document you have open. Styles, automatic clause numbering and cross-references all hold, so a reference to clause 14.3 still points at clause 14.3. Tracked changes stay tracked with their authorship, and comments stay anchored to the text they were written about, with the comment bodies translated alongside.

Excel — formulas that survive translation
Cells are translated cell by cell, so the grid stays a grid. Formulas keep pointing at the cells they pointed at, merged cells stay merged, and number formats and currency symbols are left alone rather than being helpfully converted into something your finance team did not ask for.

For teams whose documents live in SharePoint, the download-translate-reupload cycle is the real problem: it breaks version history and leaves a confidential file sitting on somebody's laptop.
